Event: Leap Year
We all know it takes 365 days for the Earth to orbit the Sun. But the fact is 365 days is close but not entirely accurate. Technically it takes 365.242190 days to complete a full orbit around the Sun. This extra ~1/4 day has to be accounted for every four years to keep our calendar properly aligned (well really really really close to alignment) with the seasons. So we add an extra day to the Gregorian calendar every four years; which takes place on February 29th. Once a century or so we skip Leap Year to more precisely sync the Gregorian calendar with the tropical year. The next time we will skip Leap Year will be in 2100.
The question is … does Leap Year’s realaignment of the calendar, positively or negatively influence the markets?
