Market Comparison Breakdown: Compare Summer Solstice vs Winter Solstice
The tilt of the Earth’s axis influences how much sunlight the earth gets between the northern and southern hemispheres. In the northern hemisphere, the summer solstice takes place in late June when we receive the most sunlight and get the longest day of the year. The winter solstice takes place 6 months later, in late December, when we receive the least amount of sunlight and experience the longest night of the year. The reverse occurs in the southern hemisphere. These astronomical time periods will most certainly have a major effect on seasonal trends.
The question is … do the markets prefer longer days during the summer solstice or longer nights during the winter solstice?
